Belarus State Economic University was founded in 1933 as the Institute for National Economy. BSEU today is the leading higher educational establishment in the field of economics in Belarus. Over 26,000 students study here at 10 departments. The University is a large scientific center with over 1500 lecturers, among them 69 doctors of science, 72 professors, 448 candidates of science and 302 associate professors.

BSEU has been training international students for decades. About 800 graduates from BSEU work in different spheres of their national economies in Asia, Africa, Europe and America occupying positions up to ministerial. Over 100 students from 21 countries of the world are studying at different departments now.

BSEU is a permanent participant in international programmes (Tacis, Tempus, Erasmus) in Europe. In addition, the department of foreign economic relations has cooperated for over ten years with the Enterprise Management Institute of Paris-1 Pantheon Sorbonne University; French-speaking students from BSEU have an opportunity of obtaining 2 diplomas – one from BSEU and another from the French University. Professors from different countries are often invited to lecture and hold seminars in BSEU.

Belarus State Economic University has agreements on cooperation with 54 universities from abroad, 14 being signed in 2006-2007.

In compliance with the Bologna process, BSEU has introduced a 2-level system of higher education. International students who complete their studies at the 1st level are awarded credentials of bachelor and a certificate of specialist; after successful completion of studies at the 2nd level they are granted with a Master degree.
