ON CREATION OF NEW INTERNATIONAL TV CHANNEL
“BELARUS-TV”
(on
the information from BelTA
12/01/2005)
The new international TV channel “Belarus-TV” has
been created by the National State TV and Radio Company of the Republic of
Belarus and will become the first national TV channel for the audience living
abroad.
General producer of the Belarus-TV producer center
Viktor Majuchiy, the channel’s audience is the Belarus nationals and also
those who have family or professional relations with the republic and all those
who would like to know more about Belarus. This is why the channel will
broadcast best programs of the Belarusian producers of tele-, film and video
products, including the closed company “Second National Channel”, closed
company “Stolichnoye Television” and also the films of the national film
studio “Belarusfilm” and Belarusian video-center. “Belarus-TV” will
broadcast only national music – both classical and modern, producer general of
the channel said. Foreign viewers will have an opportunity to learn about the
most striking projects of the country, for example programs of the international
art festival “Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk”.
Since May 2004 some programs of the first national TV
channel have been broadcast abroad via satellite “Intelsat 904”. The
technical characteristics of “Belarus-TV” allow for its broadcast in
practically all post-Soviet countries, in particular, Russia, Ukraine,
Kazakhstan, the Baltic states, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia,
Uzbekistan, Moldova.
The additional equipment would enable the channel to
retransmit cable operators of Poland, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Romania,
Turkey, Iraq and Iran.
The Belarus-TV channel will embody a new step in
TV-broadcasting organization, Viktor Mayuchiy noted. A ribbon-free air
technology is expected to be introduced at the channel in line with the modern
TV-broadcasting standards navigated by the European countries. All these steps
will promote meeting the strategic objectives of the new channel, namely
expanding the Belarusian information coverage in the world and promoting a
positive image of Belarus in the world arena.
The
international “Belarus-TV” channel and “Belarus”
radio station have begun their online
broadcasting.
The
Belarusian TV channel is available online on www.tvr.by,
which is the website of the
National State TV and Radio Company of Belarus.
To be able to watch, you have to run Microsoft Windows Media Player 9.0 or
higher, with the online access being not lower than 96 kilobit per second.
From
now on, the world wide web allows access to Belarus-TV, virtually from any spot
of the world, which is increasingly evident as more responses from foreign TV
audiences come in. Going online makes the TV channel even more committed to its
principle – giving maximum information about the developments in Belarus.
As
far as the “Belarus” radio station is concerned, the onset of its
broadcasting in Internet has proved to be yet another breakthrough into the
world information space.
Online
broadcasting in English was launched on 3 January, expanding the traditional
live across near- and far-abroad countries by 5 more hours. A new season of the
radio station which starts this September will see the growth of online
broadcasting up to 10 hours a day. The “Belarus” radio station will be
versatile and impartial in featuring domestic life, raising foreign audiences’
awareness of political, economic, and cultural events, giving an exhaustive
picture of sporting achievements and contests, of the youth policies.
The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Information, Committee for
Religions
and Nationalities under the Council of Ministries have contributed a lot to
expand information capacities of the “Belarus” radio station.
You can follow the programmes of the “Belarus” radio station online on www.tvr.by from 17.00 to 22.00 (London local time).
