Adoption of a resolution «Implementation of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons».
On 26 April, 2013 the 22nd session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice adopted a resolution «Implementation of the United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons».
This resolution was tabled by Belarus as part of the implementation of Belarus’ President Mr. Alexander Lukashenko initiative to coordinate international efforts against human trafficking. The resolution appeals to continue implementing the UN Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons initiated by Belarus.
For the first time the resolution draws attention of the international community to the necessity of combating human trafficking for the purpose of removal of organs, tissues and cells. The resolution proposed by Belarus has been cosponsored by a wide range of countries from all over the world.

Belarus calls upon to reclaim the Spirit of San-Francisco
Belarusian Foreign Minister H.E. Vladimir Makei at the general debate of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly called upon Member-States to reclaim the Spirit of San-Francisco aimed at building 'a principally new world' where justice was intended to replace the violence, cooperation was to substitute lawlessness.
V. Makei urged to reject 'market fundamentalism' as well as unscrupulousness and barbarity in foreign policy.

Belarus hosted Third Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends United Against Human Trafficking
Third Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends United Against Human Trafficking took part on September 28, 2012, in New York on margins of the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
A wide range of stakeholders, including UNODC, UN Women, IOM, UNICEF, UNHCR, took part in the meeting. The participants welcomed the accession of Lao People’s Democratic Republic to the group.
The participants adopted Declaration on the Global Efforts to Combat Trafficking in Persons (English), which outlined the ways for further cooperation in countering human trafficking.

Belarus attaches the most serious attention to countering nuclear terrorism

H.E. Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, at the High Level Meeting on Countering Nuclear Terrorism stated that Belarus undertakes efforts to fight terrorism on global and regional level within the framework of Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).
Belarusian Foreign Minister underlined that strengthening legal framework to counter nuclear terrorism cannot be feasible without the establishment of effective and non-selective system of technical assistance aiming at states’ capacity building as well as the assistance in implementing their international obligations.
Mr. Makei informed that this year Belarus in cooperation with the OSCE, UN Security Council Committee 1540 and UN Office for Disarmament Affairs elaborated a national framework document (“road map”) on additional measures to implement the 1540 Resolution.
He called upon Member States for universalization of the Convention on the Physical protection of Nuclear Material, International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism and Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism.

Belarus considers sustainable development as a corner-stone of the ECOSOC agenda.
Assistant to the President of Belarus on Foreign Policy H.E. Valentin Rybakov took part at the ECOSOC Special Ministerial Meeting.
During the meeting Mr Rybakov stated, that Belarus considers sustainable development as a corner-stone of the ECOSOC agenda. He called upon Member States to strengthen ECOSOC in order to achieve implementation of Rio + 20 Conference on Sustainable Development.
Mr Rybakov urged that ECOSOC should grant close adherence to principles of free and fair trade, which excludes protectionism and unilateral coercive measures.
He also outlined necessity to provide targeted support for middle-income countries.

Belarus notes positive developments in energy technologies cooperation.
Assistant to the President of Belarus on Foreign Policy H.E. Valentin Rybakov at the High level meeting on sustainable energy for all stated that Belarus notes positive developments in energy technologies cooperation. He expressed hope that results of the groundwork on the Secretary General’s initiative on sustainable energy for all should be reflected in the GA resolution “Promotion of new and renewable sources of energy” to be discussed during the 67th session.

Priorities of Belarus at the 67th Session of the United Nations General Assembly
At the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly the delegation of Belarus will focus on strengthening the social and economic sector of the United Nations, implementation of the Rio+20 conference’s ‘The Future We Want’ outcome document, idea of a comprehensive United Nations energy agenda and other important issues. Flowers laid at Yanka Kupala monument in Arrow Park, Monroe, New York
A flower-laying ceremony was held at the monument to Yanka Kupala in Arrow Park, Monroe, New York, on 5 July. The event was timed to the 130th anniversary of the great poet’s birth.
The representatives of the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the United Nations, Consulate General of Belarus in New York and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus as well as Belarusian Diaspora and park administration took part in the flower-laying ceremony.
The Yanka Kupala Monument was created by Belarusian sculptor Anatoly Anikeichik and architect Sergey Botkovsky and in 1973 presented to the American Side.

Belarus was re-elected to the three ECOSOC bodies.
On April 26, 2012, during its organizational session, the Economic and Social Council unanimously elected the Republic of Belarus along with 11 other countries to the Commission on the Status of Women, the principal global policy-making body dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women.
The Council also elected Belarus to the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPJC) for a three-year period. CCPJC is one of nine functional commissions of ECOSOC mandate and priorities of which include international action to combat national and transnational crime and improving the efficiency and fairness of criminal justice administration systems.
The Republic of Belarus was elected by the 54-Member Council to the Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, the body to monitor implementation of the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights by its States parties.

Belarus continues to act as an effective guarantor of borders security in the interest of the whole region
Press Secretary Andrei Savinykh made a statement at the UN Security Council open debate “Threats to international peace and security: Securing borders against illicit flows”.
The Belarusian delegate confirmed that Belarus puts a reliable barrier to illegal migration, the movement of terrorists, the transit of weapons, drugs and their precursors and acts as “a regional exporter of security”.
Andrei Savinykh informed about measures taken to ensure border security along the perimeter of the Belarusian border.
The Belarusian delegate spoke in favor of deliberation at the Committee on Trade of the United Nations European Economic Commission on the prospects of creating a universal, pan-European trading operations support system aimed to increase transparency and security of trade. Andrei Savinykh linked serious prospects with a possible contribution to this work by the Eurasian Economic Commission.
Andrei Savinykh confirmed that Belarus continues to act as an effective guarantor of borders security in the interest of the whole region.
