Statement by Deputy Permanent Representative Dr. Zoya Kolontai at the General Assembly meeting on follow-up to the commemoration of the two-hundredth anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. (Russian) The delegate informed, that in accordance with the decision of the President of the Republic of Belarus our country made a voluntary contribution of 20 000 USA dollars to the United Nations Voluntary Trust Fund for Victims of Trafficking in Persons, Especially Women and Children, which has been recently created pursuant to the resolution 64/293 “United Nations Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons”. This contribution will help to render significant assistance to victims of contemporary forms of slavery.

Belarus Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today adopted Joint Statement of the Republic of Belarus and the United States of America. The Parties affirmed their two countries’ commitment to nuclear security and nonproliferation. Belarus and the United States have affirmed a vision of a world without nuclear weapons and pledged to work together to prevent nuclear proliferation.
