On August 2, 2010 the President of the Republic of Belarus signed Decree No 400 on participation of the Belarusian military personnel in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operation in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
This became a starting point for the participation of Belarus in the UN Peacekeeping Operations. Since then, Belarus managed to gain a good pace of cooperation in that field. It has already deployed medical contingent and a staff officer to the UNIFIL.
In August 2011 the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Belarus and the United Nations which established the terms and conditions of cooperation within the UNIFIL was signed.
At present the Belarusian Government is working in close cooperation with the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations in order to expand Belarusian participation in the UN Peacekeeping Operations.
